I know I have not written about Nigeria in a long time, because I have felt led to post all that I have because of the Holy Spirit’s leading. It’s about time to give an update about what is happening there!
I have good news, and bad news, regarding Nigeria. Soldiers in Borno state have recently had a string of victories over Boko Haram, including foiling one attack in Kareto, Nigeria. Unfortunately, one soldier was killed and four others were wounded in the confrontation in Kareto, but it is a blessing to know that Nigeria is fighting back effectively against Boko Haram (source). In addition to this victory, the Nigerian Air Force’s jets have destroyed one of the headquarters of Boko Haram!
While Boko Haram may not be actively fighting in many places in Northern Nigeria, they have left behind thousands of people who have no homes and little to no medical care. The UN and WHO have come to the aid of many, but many people still lack basic necessities, like food, water, and vaccinations. Because of this, outbreaks of malaria, cholera, and diarrhea have become common in internally displaced people’s camps. While there is no fighting from outside sources (such as Boko Haram), many are still fighting inside sources—viruses and sicknesses that wage war against their very bodies (source).
War within, war without. Only Christ can bring the peace and stability needed in these people’s lives, as well as the comfort and strength to keep on going. With seemingly incessant attacks, much prayer is needed for the church and for the people of Nigeria. Will you pray with me?
Do you know Jesus?
“…And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
(Isaiah 9:6, NIV)
Jesus is called the Prince of Peace, the only One who can give us the Peace we need. Learn more about Jesus, and how He gives us this Peace, here.
Please pray for…
- Those in internally displaced people’s camps. Pray that they would receive the aid they so desperately need.
- The Nigerian Military and Air Force. That they would continue to gain ground against and defeat Boko Haram.
- The Chibok girls and Leah Sharibu. That those who are in captivity would be freed mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically!
Thank you for your prayers!
