What I am about to say could offend some people, but it is the truth.
For years, many, many people have been labeling Joyce Meyers as a teacher of what is called the “Prosperity Gospel.” What is the “Prosperity Gospel,” you ask? Essentially, it is the belief that all God wants for you is health, wealth, and success, and that if you claim His “promises” enough, you will gain such health and wealth.
This “Gospel” is dangerous for many reasons. First, it claims that if a person gets sick or ill, it is from a “lack of faith.” Furthermore, it teaches that God is basically a genie in a bottle, a tool to help you “live your best life now.”
Joyce Meyers, among many other preachers, have believed and taught this theology for years. But, surprisingly, FaithWire has reported that Joyce Meyers has renounced her Prosperity Gospel beliefs in a clip of a sermon of hers. You can watch it on her instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BsWuTxmjS_y/.
This is serious, friends. What we believe should control all that we say and do. Pastor John Piper called this “Gospel” abominable, claiming that it can (and has) hurt countless people over the years. FaithWire added his video about the Prosperity Gospel in their article.
Now, I understand that some people are wealthy and healthy Christians– and that is not a sin, as long as one is putting their faith in Christ instead of their riches. But many a time, people choose to “love money,” the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10). That is sin, and a grievous sin at that.
Seeing Joyce’s changed life and view on this subject is very promising. Instead of propagating a “Gospel” that does nothing but hurt and shame those “without faith,” she has found right theology. May those such as Joel Osteen and T.D. Jakes, other proponents of the Prosperity Gospel, also come to “see the light” on such matters. For if we believe the true Gospel of Christ, we really will be free.
Do you know Jesus?
Jesus did not come to this earth so that we would be healthy and wealthy in this life. He came to save us from our sins, and give us eternal life. Learn more about Jesus, and what He did for you, here.
Please pray for (find their prayer sheets here)…
- Those who are still caught in believing the Prosperity Gospel. May they come to see thet truth.
- Pastors who propagate lies about the Gospel, and the Bible itself. May they come to realize how heavy their job is to shepherd God’s people.
- For the Chibok girls and Leah Sharibu.
Thank you for your prayers!
