Sometimes, we need the people around us to help us. This couldn’t be more true in the fight between Niger and Boko Haram.
The United States of America has given a 16.5 million dollar US Operation Centre to help aid Niger in Boko Haram’s relentless attacks (source). The US has also aided with sending soldiers; in 2017, the US lost five soldiers in the war against Boko Haram. It’s true; we all sometimes need help in the war we are in.
I have written this piece with this in mind, as a tribute to their aid to Niger. I hope and pray that you enjoy.
“Friend (Reinforcements)”
Friend,
I fell today. The gunshots
ricocheted in my mind,
causing fear to capture
from all sides.
Friend,
where are you?
Did you dump money from the sky,
hoping it would get into the right hands?
Have you seen the barreness of these lands?
Friend,
Thank you for your reinforcements.
Your footsteps and voices
were like lemonade on the hottest of days.
Friend,
Do not leave;
do not let go of my hand
in the middle of helping me up.
I know,
enough is enough. May your
heart’s provision and investments
fill this cup,
not leaving anyone empty.
The war goes on. Friend,
don’t leave my side.
If we watch for them together,
there is no place
in this forsaken land
where the enemy
can hide.

“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”
