Hey Friends.
Today, February 23rd, 2019, is the official Presidential Election Day in Nigeria (it was going to be last week, but was postponed due to logistical issues). We do not know quite yet who the winner is, but one thing about this election disturbed me and made me think.
In Northern Nigeria, there has been terrorism and violence surrounding this very important day. And it makes me think: Boko Haram is trying to terrify others, when in reality they are terrified. Any move forward is seen as a huge indicator of the fact that Boko Haram is losing, and it is because of this that they are trying to create as much trouble and violence as possible.
You and I may not be Nigerians dealing with Boko Haram, but let me ask you this: Have you ever felt pushback when you are moving in the direction Christ is leading you in? Like for everyone step forward, there are three steps back? I have honestly been feeling this lately in regard to my social anxiety and fear.
But then I think to myself: I wouldn’t be dealing with this pushback if I was not upsetting and worrying the enemy. In reality, he is the one who must fear– and he does. So, he attempts to scare me.
I have to be honest: sometimes, his agenda works. Especially in the past few days; many things have happened that have made me want to curl up in the fetal position and just sleep forever because of the anxiety.
But I know who I truly am, and who I truly belong to. I know that God’s Spirit lives inside of me, and that He has promised never to leave or forsake me (Romans 8:11; Hebrews 13:5-6). Because of these things, I am the one that satan is afraid of.
In reality, the enemy threatens to silence me… but it is him that is terrified. he knows the end is coming soon. It is a glorious end for us; but a terrible end for him. he knows this, and is working over time.
So, no matter what Boko Haram tries to do this election, let’s pray that Nigeria succeeds in having fair, transparent, successful elections… and tell satan to get lost in our own day to day lives.
