“Bring Back Our Captives, Lord”: A Look at Psalm 126

Hi Friends.

Today marks the 5th anniversary of the Chibok school girl kidnapping.
276 were kidnapped by Boko Haram.
57 escaped.
107 have been found/released.
112 are still missing.

Christ gave me some scripture to share with you all today: it is Psalm 126. It reads,

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
The Lord has done great things for them.’
The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.
Restore our fortunes, Lord,
like streams in the Negev.
Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with them.”

Psalm 126:1 Or Lord brought back the captives to
Psalm 126:1 Or those restored to health
Psalm 126:4 Or Bring back our captives

I add the footnotes from Biblegateway.com in this passage because they give this passage a more relevant meaning. Psalm 126 is “a song of ascents,” where the people of Israel are rejoicing over going back to their homeland after years of exile in a foreign land. With footnotes, it reads, “When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion, we were like those restored to health. …Bring back our captives, Lord, like the streams of Negev.” This is very powerful imagery. Psalm 126 speaks of joy in that many captives are free again, while also asking the Lord to bring back more captives.

This is my hearts’ cry concerning the Chibok girls who are still in captivity, today. Please, be praying for these beautiful girls– and wear red, signifying their plight.

Even now, Jesus can do ANYTHING. Let us not give up praying for and sharing the story of these precious girls.

With Love,
Annalee, ISAIAH 62 PRAYER MINISTRY
