The Importance of Kindness: Praying for President Trump

Apparently, Pastor David Platt has come under fire by other Christians recently for praying for US President, President Donald Trump.

Allie Stuckey, a woman consistently on BlazeTV, had similar comments in one of her recent episodes. In the episode, she “blasts” people who were criticizing David Platt, stating, “The fact of the matter is there is no biblical reason to have any problem with it.”

This breaks my heart. No matter how you feel about Trump, is he not a mere man who needs to know Jesus, just like the rest of us? A man who needs prayer about how to lead our nation correctly, righteously? The Word (the Bible) specifically commands believers in 1 Timothy 2 to pray for our leaders (and not just the ones we approve of):

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
(1 Timothy 2:1-2, NIV)

Guys, as Christians, we are the LIGHT OF THE WORLD. The city on a hill! The salt of the earth! We live in a place and time where honor and kindness are in scarce supply. Instead of disagreeing vehemently with each other and producing hatred and factions, nonbelievers should know us by our unity, our kindness, and our LOVE.

I pray that President Trump comes to know Jesus, and that he would lead this country in a way that honors Jesus. And I pray for all of my brothers and sisters who hate him, refusing to pray and going against those who do. May we all come together and glorify the God who showed us His great Love, on the cross at Calvary—a precious kindness we could never repay, but are eternally grateful for.

Dear Lord Jesus,
You alone are God. Please unite Your Children, and draw us closer and closer to You as we see the end coming now more than ever. Give our president wisdom and guidance– but most of all, may He know You personally as his Lord and Savior, and may He live a life led by You, Lord. We thank You for this.
In Jesus’ Name we pray this,
Amen.”
