I read through the news from ReliefWeb, and it is all so overwhelming.
5 Nigerian pastors, adbucted by terrorists on their way to a conference.
18 villages in Nigeria ravaged and raided by Boko Haram.
60 people killed in a funeral procession by Boko Haram, as Fulani Herdsmen and Boko Haram combined have killed thousands of Christians. It has led Barrister Emmanuel Ogebe to say that “more Christians were killed in northern Nigeria in 2012 than the rest of the world combined.”
Read that over again: “more Christians were killed in northern Nigeria in 2012 than the rest of the world combined.”
What can we do in the face of such overwhelming evil? I learned, quite recently, that the most productive thing we can do in this war is pray. This sounds cliche; but when we come to the God of Heaven and Earth with prayers and petitions, He hears us– and will act according to His Will and Power (Psalm 116:1-2).
Friends, with this in mind, I am asking that we focus our prayer efforts on Nigeria and the trouble going on there this coming week. Please be praying that:
- The Nigerian Christians would be given courage, comfort, wisdom, protection, and favor as they battle this persecution.
- Boko Haram would be decimated, along with the Fulani Herdsmen as they fight against Nigerian Christians.
- The Nigerian government and military would be strengthened by the Lord to bring peace and safety back to Nigeria, the Northern part especially.
- Leah Sharibu would not be dead, as unconfirmed reports have stated, but that she would be alive and freed soon.
Our prayers avail much (James 5:16). Thank you for reading and praying.
