Focusing on the Chibok Girls

Over 5 years ago, 276 young women were kidnapped by a terrorist organization.
Where are they?

57 escaped through harsh wilderness, some without shoes or water, risking death to be free.

107 were released, bargaining done for their very lives.

But the 112 still remaining? … we don’t know.

5 ½ years ago, when Jesus first put these young women on my heart to pray and advocate for, I dreamed of even one of them becoming free. One smiling again. One singing songs to Jesus, her Savior.

It’s true! —Jesus has done “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” (Ephesians 3:20b). 164 young women have been freed, and there are videos of their celebrations—ones that can touch the heart, like the one in this article.

As I watch their mothers and fathers rain down love and excitement upon them, I am overwhelmed with these thoughts: These young women are missed. They matter. They are Hephzibah— “delighted in,” just as Isaiah 62 says.

“But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married. As a young man marries a young woman, so will your Builder marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.” (Isaiah 62:4b-5)

MATTER

This blog was started with the intention to keep these young women in the spotlight, both in prayer and advocacy. Many blogposts have been about other things, related or not.

But today, I just want to lift these precious young women to the Lord, that the 112 still captive would be free, and that those who are free would give all their glory and praise to Jesus. Would you pray with me?

“Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for each and every one of these young women. We know that they are precious in Your sight.
We pray now that You would bring each and every “Chibok girl” freedom, and that they would glorify You in their freedom. Show us what we can do to advocate and pray for these girls.
In Jesus’ Name I pray,
Amen.”
