“Christian Suicide Bombers?” I Don’t Think So.

Legit.ng has reported that a Christian bomber has been found trying to bomb a church. In reply to this, Ishaq Akintola, the leader of MURIC (The Muslim Rights Concern), has said that he is not surprised. According to him, there is a “Christian Boko Haram” too.

This just confused me. While Islam and Christianity share many similarities, the taking of a person’s life in hopes of going to heaven is not one of them! Islam encourages and demands its members to follow their strict dogma, even to the point of performing suicide bombings. Christianity, while it has had a bad rap in many ways, does not demand this strict obedience to dogma; we are to love others and give of ourselves, not take our own lives and the lives of others.

This is the core difference between Christianity and other religions, including Islam: our way to heaven has already been paid by Jesus. Jesus is God, and He did what no one else could do: live a perfect life. And so He stepped into our place, and rescued us.

I don’t need to do anything to be made right in God’s eyes because of Jesus. Good works become something I want to do, from a sincere heart. My place in heaven is already made.

As I hear MURIC’s accusation of there being “Christian suicide bombers,” it just doesn’t make sense. Our God is a God of healing, not hurting. There can be renegade “Christians” trying to do evil things, but there is no such thing as Christian suicide bombers. May these bombers come to know Jesus for real, and may real Christians in the local Church reach out to those hurting because of such bombers.black box (2).jpg
