Honestly, I hadn’t heard of the suffering happening in Afghanistan until very recently. Hearing of it broke my heart.
For those of you who haven’t heard, the Taliban has recently taken back control of Afghanistan, changing the civic rules and laws in weeks. This is startingly true in the lives of women who live in Afghanistan.
Women are now unable to leave their homes without a male family member escorting them; they cannot study or go to work; and they are basically told to stay at home.
Just like that… everything women had gained in their time since the Taliban was removed from power in Afghanistan over twenty years ago has come to nothing. And it’s made me think.
We cannot go back to the places that bound us. There are sins once done, and dark places we once inhabited, that bound us completely. Sometimes, we can see those places as more cheery than they once were. We remember all the good, while conveniently forgetting how much anguish it put us through. Jesus has set us free! Why would we want to go back?
We cannot go back to the places that bound us.
We must pray for those in Afghanistan, especially the women and children… and remember the dark habits of our past for what they were. May these women and children find liberation, and may we all live to come to know Jesus, who secures our true freedom.
With Love, in Christ,
Annalee, ISAIAH 62 PRAYER MINISTRY
