Look Up: Trusting in God’s Sovereignty

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling… bleh.
Anxious. Let down. Frustrated. Scared, even.

All of this is for personal reasons; but I look around me and see the same thing. Especially since much of the Western United States is up in flames, the Presidential Election is coming up, and COVID is still very prevalent in our society. What are we to do?

I’ve been reading a book called Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado, and in it, Lucado writes about how we can rejoice in the Lord’s Sovereignty, no matter what is happening in our lives. The same God who created all things is in charge of all things, and not only that—He LOVES us.

While we sit here, feeling deflated, we can look up, and say, “Father, You are Good, and in control.” He is in charge of who wins the 2020 elections, when the fires will stop, and every situation you happen to be in. And He turns all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). You can trust His Love because He died for you, that you might know the Father and live forever (John 3:16, John 17:3).

So next time you feel completely out of control, friend, stop fighting, and accept His Love. Accept His Sovereignty. And Accept His good, wise, unique, perfect plan for your life. Never forget: His thoughts towards you are for good, not for evil (Jeremiah 29:11).

In Christ,

IN THE FIRE

50 people killed so far1. 200 missing. 125,000 acres and 7600 homes ravaged2. The wildfires in California are beyond frightful; they are devastating nightmares.

Thousands of lives—including celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Neil Young3— have been affected for the worst. People have lost everything; from treasured family heirlooms, to pictures, to expensive houses and cars. And it’s got me thinking.

In such an event, would you lose everything? I mean, everything that mattered to you?

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
(Matthew 6:19-21, ESV)

As we pray for the people literally going through a sort of hell on earth in the Campfire Fire, Woolsey Fire and Hill Fire, let’s remember the fragility of holding onto the material items in our lives for dear life– especially if they are getting in the way of a deeper relationship with Jesus. Those things can and will quickly disappear; but the things we do in putting Christ first will stay forever.

May the people affected by these fires come to know Jesus, and be given the resilience, strength and protection needed to go through such hard times.

Do you know Jesus?

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10, ESV)

satan has done much to ruin people’s lives in this world; but Jesus came to give us eternal life, among other things. Learn more about Jesus, and how He gives eternal life, here.

Please pray for…

  • Those being affected by the multiple fires blazing in California. May they be kept safe, and may the number of fatalities not go up any more. Most of all, may firefighters be aided in stopping the fires!!!

Thank you for your prayers!!!
