For the Men

In all of my blog posts about the war on terror worldwide and especially in Nigeria, I talk a lot about the victims—the women and children, especially. But I have realized that I have not spoken about the men who have been victims of Boko Haram. Continue reading

Good News: Taking Care of the Earth

Gratefully, not all news is bad news!

At a small farm in Lasalle, Colorado, thousands of baby chicks have been saved. The farm could no longer financially keep the chicks, and so called many nonprofits in to help save the chicks.

They have done so much to ensure the health of these chicks, and it warmed my heart. While it seems very random, I thought it was a sweet, clear picture of who we are to be as humans who are to “subdue the earth” as Genesis says:

Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’ …God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’”
(Genesis 1:26, 28, NIV)

While mankind is the only being made in God’s Image, and is therefore higher above than any animal, it is important to take care of the creatures and plants in our world. Those who are faithful in doing this show some of God’s attributes: that He cares for the plants and animals He has made.

Do you have any pets or creatures you take care of? How does it make you feel to know that God has told us to take care of the earth?
